Dear #rubyfriends—

For over a decade (a billion gem installs and counting!), Hanami, Dry, and Rom have sought to elevate your Ruby.

We’ve elevated your apps, giving you drop-in tools for strict typing, flexible validation, business logic handling, database layers and more, all the way to a batteries-included framework.

We’ve elevated your skills, helping you blend functional and object oriented styles and create clearer data flows and separations of concern, leading to maintainable architectures that are a pleasure to work on.

And we’ve elevated Ruby itself, providing essential variety through our technical innovation and friendly, inclusive community.

Now we’re preparing to take the Hanami family to the next level. This year, we will:

  • Merge Hanami with Dry and Rom to create a single compelling Ruby toolkit backed by a unified community and maintainer team.
  • Focus on helping our users become more successful with our tools.
  • Establish paid ongoing maintenance of Hanami for the very first time.

Together, these will put Hanami on a sustainable trajectory for our second decade and beyond. We’re here for the long run.

We need your help to make this happen! We need you and your Ruby business to become Hanami patrons.

We’d love for you to join Mike Perham, Honeybadger, Brandon Weaver and FastRuby in ensuring a sustainable future for Hanami, and a more diverse Ruby ecosystem.

Our goals

We’re aiming to raise USD $70k/year, ongoing.

$26,000
of $70,000 yearly goal
37%
$40k
$70k

With this funding, we can:

  • Continue to make improvements, fixes and releases of all gems, including renewed attention on Dry and Rom.
  • Improve the Hanami developer experience. Better CLI, more helpful errors, easier testing approaches, even an LSP.
  • Write new learning material and documentation.
  • Create a new Hanami community hub to bring users together from across the whole ecosystem.

Milestone 1: $40k

Tim Riley
Hanami project lead

1 day/week of ongoing work from Tim, plus a small reserve for community and promotional activities.

Your support can give Hanami paid ongoing maintenance for the very first time. Help me lead Hanami without burning out! 😅

Milestone 2: $70k

Sean Collins
Long-time Hanami contributor

1 day/week of ongoing work from Sean.

Hanami is bigger than any one person, and we’re better when we band together! I would be delighted to bring on Sean as a second paid maintainer before increasing my own time.

The fineprint — This is not an "all-or-nothing" fundraising campaign. We will put any financial support to immediate use for work on Hanami. Your money will go far, as it will directly fund Ruby gem development; there is no administrative overhead in Hanami’s own operations.

You’re in good company

Thank you to these amazing people and businesses who are already supporting Hanami’s future! Maybe you can join them?

Hear from our patrons

Ruby has a problem: it’s mostly a monoculture around Rails. Merb and Sinatra provided valuable app framework options in the past, I believe we need new options for the future.
Mike Perham
In Ruby diversity is our greatest strength, whether that be the people, the ideas, or the technologies we use. Ruby is not just one framework, nor is it just one person, it is a community of passionate people pushing the boundaries of what's possible not just as individuals, but as a collective. I am happy to continue to fund efforts building upon that vision of the future.
Honeybadger has been monitoring Ruby apps since 2012, and we’ve always believed in giving back to the open source community that made our business possible. We're proud to sponsor a framework and team that is working to make Ruby better for everyone. Hanami is leading the way.
Joshua Wood
At FastRuby we believe in the value of diverse and inclusive communities. With our yearly contribution to Hanami we are investing in a framework that brings positive change to our beloved Ruby ecosystem. We envision a future where projects like Hanami, Roda, Sinatra, Cuba, and Padrino push the boundaries of what's possible in Ruby.
Ernesto Tagwerker
At AppSignal, we believe in sustainable open-source software and are happy to contribute to Hanami's development by enabling others to continue the great work they do. In turn, this allows us to keep providing APM services that smoothly integrate with Hanami. Everybody wins.
